Ep. 134 It Get's Ugly Before It Gets Beautiful

Steve has officially found a coach.
In this episode, Matt Woodbridge returns to the show—but this time with a very different role. After months of searching for someone who could provide more than another swing tip, Steve begins what he hopes will be a long-term coaching journey towards scratch golf.
Rather than immediately changing mechanics, Matt starts by asking bigger questions:
- Where do you actually want to get to?
- What kind of golfer are you trying to become?
- What part of your game would you fix if you could only choose one?
The answers aren't as simple as they seem.
The guys dive into why most coaching stops at the symptoms instead of addressing the causes, why data can sometimes challenge what you think your weaknesses are, and how real improvement requires commitment long before the scorecard shows it.
Later, they unpack the first technical changes from Steve's initial practice session—including two setup adjustments that immediately transformed his five iron from a leaking 150-metre fade into a solid 170-plus metre strike. But perhaps the biggest lesson wasn't technical at all...
Sometimes the swing has to feel completely wrong before it becomes right.
It's an honest conversation about coaching, trust, patience and the uncomfortable reality that meaningful improvement often gets worse before it gets better.
Rock Factor
The episode finishes with the debut of Steve's new original song inspired by the coaching journey—a fitting reminder that the biggest breakthroughs often begin with the discomfort of change.
